Boswellia Serrata is a gum resin extracted from an Indian tree, which is sometimes burnt (the entire species of Boswellia is commonly known as Frankinsence) as an aromatic or otherwise administered as medicine.
The human body has two major inflammatory pathways, either through 1) the activation of the LOX or 2) the activation of the COX enzyme (also known as COX-1 and COX-2). The major difference between the two is how spread out they are through the human body (COX being far more spread out than LOX).
Boswellia serrata, via its active boswellic acids, has a unique mechanism of action that appears to specifically target and inhibit the pro-inflammatory enzyme 5-Lipoxygenase (5-Lox). The LOX enzyme, is traditionally in most injured areas of the body, and because Boswellia targets LOX and not COX, it avoids the unwanted side effects of systemic wide COX inhibition, while still stopping inflammation where it’s really needed, your muscles.
Apresflex® has studies in humans where it showed significant effects on pain reduction and an increase in physical function in subjects who took 100mg Apresflex® for 90 days in a double blind, randomized controlled trial 1. These individuals noticed a reduction of pain in as little as 7 days!
Another study showed similar effects in humans taking 100 mg of Apresflex® during a 30 day double blind randomized controlled trial, where subjects noticed an improvement in as little as 5 days 2.
ApreśFlex® also more effectively inhibits MMP-3 activity, helping protect against collagen degradation, an important component of connective tissues.
While Boswellia supplements are widely available, is hard to validate if their extraction is actually for the effective extract components that deliver the benefits.
Apresflex® delivers the strongest anti-inflammatory elements in Boswellia, “AKBA” 3, in an optimized form that showed faster absorption and quicker healing effects, making it the most optimal Boswellia extract on the market 4.
